She is a dedicated Change-Maker whose work began with profound impact. In 2010, she launched a youth-led non-governmental organization focused on promoting sexual health and eradicating HIV/AIDS through responsible behavior. The success of this early mission earned her an international fellowship in global health in 2012 and has since been scaled into the BAKUNZI Foundation. Now, as a Social-Entrepreneur, she is driven by the conviction that long-term change requires cultural alignment. She strategically serves Christian markets, particularly in Rwanda, by developing solutions based on local heritage and values to ensure sustainable impact.
When I look at the numbers, my heart breaks. Only 18% of unmarried, sexually active teenagers are using modern contraceptives. Meanwhile, 24% of girls and 10% of boys have endured sexual violence. These aren’t just statistics they’re stories of pain, confusion, and lost potential. It’s clear that policy alone isn’t enough. We’re facing something deeper, more systemic.
That’s part of the reason I started the Bakunzi Foundation. For me, this mission is personal. But it is also a social responsibility and a ministry. I believe true transformation begins where faith, knowledge, and opportunity meet. Young people deserve more than information they deserve wisdom, compassion, and guidance rooted in both evidence and spiritual truth.
Sexuality is not a source of shame. It is sacred a divine gift that should be honored, understood, and embraced with clarity. At Bakunzi Foundation, we’re not afraid of the tough conversations. In fact, we welcome them with love, truth, and purpose. Our goal is to help young people navigate their sexuality not just as a biological reality, but as part of their God-given identity.
I understand that people come from all walks of life, cultures, and beliefs. We are committed to creating a space where everyone is seen, heard, and respected regardless of background. Dignity and inclusivity are core to everything we do.
But I’ve also learned that education alone doesn’t change lives. Empowerment does. That’s why our work goes beyond teaching. We heal. We equip. We create real, sustainable opportunities for young people to become self-reliant and financially independent. Through partnerships with educators, professionals, and community leaders, we provide the tools needed to make informed decisions and to build stable, hopeful futures.
At the Bakunzi Foundation, transformation is not just something we dream about. It’s something we work toward every day, side by side. Through education, dialogue, and opportunity, we help young people reclaim their dignity, discover their purpose, and walk forward with confidence.
So I invite you: pray with us, partner with us, volunteer, advocate, participate, sponsor, collaborate, purchase a resource, make a donation, subscribe or support this mission in whatever way you can. Together, let’s build a world where faith, knowledge, and empowerment drive real and lasting change.
With hope,
Angelique BAKUNZI
